AVA SERRA (they/she)
…is a non-binary writer based in the United States. Their poetry centers sociocultural experiences and identities less examined by the Western poetic canon, with particular and personal focuses on domestic sapphic joy, interactions between a menstruating body and non-binary identity, displaced Boricua culture, and abuse survival confessionalism.
Their works have been published or are forthcoming in Salt Hill Journal, Black Spot Books, Jelly Bucket, Lavender Review, among others. Recognitions include a 2023 Pushcart Prize nomination and an award from the Academy of American Poets.
As of 2022, they are in the process of earning their MFA in Poetry from the University of Maryland (expected 2025).
